May 2014|Book Haul

Hey everyone! :)

So, this is my book haul for May 2014. I have been planning to get this blog post up all week. I wanted it to be closer to the 1st of June though. So here we go!

May was not my biggest book buying month, but I still ended up with a pretty good amount of books in this haul.

I will start with saying, aside from the 2 books I just bought (with a gift card I won in a contest during the Bout of Books Read-a-Thon) I very rarely buy brand new books at retail. I love to go to the used bookstore here or I buy them online at Thrift Books . I prefer cheap books and honestly most are well taken care of. Also, I am not one to be picky on whether they are paperback or hardback (other than paperbacks are normally cheaper) and the old saying "Never judge a book by its cover" is something I live by in all aspects of my life, including book buying. I hear so many people talk about "how beautiful", "It's so pretty", "I really want to own 12 copies of a book because I want to find the best looking one" (ok that last one is a joke, but not too far off base) when it comes to book covers. Honestly, once it's in its home on your bookshelf it usually doesn't show its cover too much, so why even worry about it? Also, people worrying about series being the same size, matching covers and all paperback or all hardback is just silly. Appreciate a book for its content not for how they look on the outside. Not all things can conform, so why worry so much about they way things look constantly.

*steps off soapbox* Sorry, I hate how superficial readers have become lately.

Ok, on with the book haul! :)

Book #1:
Little Children by Tom Perrotta

I picked this book up because once I read the synopsis, I really wanted to read it. Look it up to know more about it. I really don't want to ruin it for anyone, I hate when that happens to me. :)

Book #2:
How to Make Love Like a Porn Star by Jenna Jameson

I have read this book twice before. I used to own it from quite a few years but I lost that copy in a house fire a few years ago. So, I had been looking for it for a long time online and in my bookstores. And finally one day, I found it this month and I literally about pee'd myself I was so excited (ok not literally, but I was very excited none-the-less, lol)!
This book is a (autobiography) of her life up until like 10 years ago or so. I promise, it is NOT a how-to manual, lol! Her life was rough, but in the end things have prevailed for her.
I will be rereading this one again because it is a good one. :)

Book #3:
Monster by Walter Dean Myers

I have heard so much about this book, so when I saw it for $3.00 at my used bookstore, I had to grab it. I don't know a ton about it, but I am sure excited to find out.

Book #4:
Lock & Key by Sarah Dessen

I am looking forward to reading something by Sarah Dessen finally. I have literally heard nothing but good things about her books. I have a feeling I will be doing a book review on this one after I read it, so watch out for that.

Book #5:
Big, Fat Manifesto by Susan Vaught

I started this book during the Bout of Books Read-a-Thon a few weeks ago, but, I only got about 30 pages in, but I will be picking it back up, I enjoyed what I have read so far.
I find the premise of this book to be a good one, shedding a better light on a plus-sized girl with a "normal" high school life. I am looking forward to finishing this one.

Book #6:
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

I have read this before and I used to own the movie too. I loved them both, but somewhere along the way they have both left my life, so I found this copy for $1.00, and I really want to reread it soon, so I bought it.

Book #7:
Must Love Dogs by Claire Cook

I watched the movie years ago when it came out and I loved it! So, for $1.00 I figured I could find out if the book is good too, which I am sure it is, cause books are normally better than movies, lol.

Book #8:
Ladies With Options by Cynthia Hartwick

I happened upon this book in a hug bin of tons of paperbacks for $1.00 at my used bookstore and after reading the synopsis I had to get it. So, we will see how it turns out.

That is my May book haul. Here is the video that goes with this blog post. Hope you enjoy both!

Please feel free to subscribe to any and all of my social media stuff it will be posted below.
